super visa

Super Visas are a special category of visas reserved for parents and grandparents of Canadian Citizens or Permanent Residents.  It allows them to visit their family in Canada for up to two (2) years at a time without losing their status, making it more long-term in nature. The Super Visa is a multi-entry visa that provides multiple entries for a period up to 10 years. The key difference between a regular multi-entry visa and the Super Visa is it allows an individual to stay for up to two years at a time in Canada, while a 10-year multiple entry visa would only have a status period for each entry of six months only.

What are the requirements?

While the Super Visa may entitle holders to stay more long-term i.e. two years at a time in Canada, it is not Permanent Residence. The applicants have to convince the Visa Officer that they intend to return to their home country after their stay, just like they do while applying for TRVs.

Some of the requirements for applying for Super Visa include:

  • You must be the parent or grandparent of a Canadian citizen or a permanent resident of Canada;
  • You must provide a written statement from the child or grandchild in Canada that they will give you financial support
  • You must have valid Canadian Medical Insurance Coverage for at least one year
  • You must have an immigration Medical Exam

Financial support (proof of funds)
